Default where to set a shotgun on your shoulder

where do you guys set your shotgun at on your shoulder.
I did some shooting today to get ready for gun season shot three times first dead on second two off one left one right.
It hurt all three times more then normaly. Heck last year i shot it 20 times with 2 3/4 #6s and it did not hurt that bad.
I think i might have it alittle high due to the range table sitting so low. I know one time i think i might have had it alittle to far in more on my colar bone then my shoulder. Where should i have it held at.

Not sure how to explain it. My 12 gauge if fine and not a problem with 2 3/4" bird shot but if you put in buckshot. Well, 3" or 3 1/2" not sure about 2 3/4" it hurts like heck. After a few shots you are tired of shooting it. One thing I will do though is put my jacket on. It's fairly heavy but not too bad. That or coveralls and it is a night and day difference in the feel. It goes from hurting to where my shoulder hurt for a day or so after 4 shots to shooting several and not even felling it a few minutes later. It makes it soo much better to shoot.

slugs hurt no matter what....put the butt where you would with anything else..no way around the recoil....just gotta learn to control yourself and not flinch, which it sounds like you were anticipating the recoil after the first shot and jerked...

This depends on how you are built. No two shooters are identical, just like no two guns are identical! Put it where it feels best to you! For slugs, (or anything with substantial recoil) keep the thing TIGHTLY against your shoulder & ride with the recoil, don't let it get a running start before it hits you!

I think one issue is the range has a bench setup the seat and top is set low. SO i hold the shotgun alittle high. I also think i might not be holding it tight enough on my shoulder.

YA the kick good i have shot turkey loads 3 inch shells. There not half as bad as the slugs. I will be getting the limb saver. I am not sissing out about the recoil. It just hurt real bad more then it ever did before. I worry i am holding it to high which might hurt something.
