Default Survival kit gun?

I saw on suirvorman he had a gun where you took of the butt end and the was holes holes he drilled into ithe stock. In one was extra bullets, the other was a spark stick and the third was cotton tinder.

My question is could you do this where you hallow enough of the stock to fit an altoids survival kit? thanks in advamce.

I suppose it would depend on what kind of stock your gun has. If it has a bolt (as most of them do) that attaches the butt stock to the reciever, then you probably couldn't find a spot big enough to be able to remove enough material to fit an altoids can inside. Many military surplus guns have a spot in the butt stock for a cleaning kit, you may be able to modify that to your needs.

Or you may be able to install something like a "patch box" (like a traditional muzzleloader would have) onto the side of the stock?

I've seen that episode. The reason the holes were so small is becasue he drilled the holes himself.

Not a bad idea but I would worry about the balance of the gun. I would also worry about being separated from my gun. I have survival kit that I always keep either in my pack or on my person. If I'm not carrying a pack I keep it in my game vest.
