Default Redfield Widefield Scopes

In the late 1970's, 3 of us hunt camp members bought Redfield Widefield scopes 1.5x5 .We still have these sopes mounted on our 742 Remington .30-06 semi auto's. None of us have ever had a problem picking up running deer/moose in them, even in thick cover. I know that Redfield was bought up by someone. The quality of these scopes is quite good.
I think that we paid $100 each. Who bought Redfield and dropped the name ?

Leupold was the last buyer and have not heard a thing about Redfield since then

I think Meade owned them before that.

Friend of mine purchased a used pre64 with a Redfield on it and he sent it off to a place in Miami that bought all the redfield parts and some machinery. Leupold just purchased the brand name from Meade.

I have several of the old Redfield Widefields.

I don't know who took them over or who has them now.

For Redfield repairs go towww.abousainc.com
I had one cleaned and serviced by them some years back and they did a great job. They were pricey on the shipping though.I see from their site they are moving. They used to be right in downtown Miami.

Those old Redfields sure are nice scopes. I have an old Tracker 2x7 that came with the 760 I bought. $225 for the gun and the scope. I love a good bargain! I wonder if there is anyway to tell the date of manfacture on those scopes. My guess would be from the 60's but theres no way to know for sure.

I have one of these in 3x9 from the late '70's. I bought it used from a guy who only used it 2-3 times. I put it on a M77 Ruger-30-06 in 1982. I have used it less than 10 times since then. The glass is quality and the reticles are very fine line. Nice scope in my opinion.

I could never understand why Redfields never got any more "respect" than they did. I have several of them, and always considered them good quality optics. Very close to Leupolds, in my opinion....
