The 7mm Rem. Mag. is a great cartridge, and it is also my favorite. It is perfect for all north american game out to 500 plus yards. I use a 7mm Rem. Mag. to deer hunt and absolutely love it. It is a very fast and hard hitting bullet. I would not trade it for anything. Good luck & happy hunting.

It's a solid cartridge.

Why are you looking at it? Is one available to you? What will you use it for? Or are you just looking for a new rifle and came to both the 7mm and the weatherby?

I have shot a rem 7mag for 20 years. Great cartridge, the only accuracy problems with i have ever had was when i tried to load some speer grandslams. My remington 700 does not like the grandslams at all. I have killed deer, elk and tons of coyotes with mine.

I have had five of them and hated the heck out of all of them. Strange but true. It's one of two cartridges that I did my best to love and failed. The other was the 243. Give me anything else but no more 7 Mags or 243 which I also had at least five of. Slow learner I guess. I found the 7 Mag to have about the same performance as the 280 with much more recoil and muzzle blast. I found the 243 miserably inadequate for deer size game when compared to the old 250 savage. People can argue but I have made up my mind after about 40 years of trying these two. That said, if you like them, by all means use them.

As far as magnums go, put me in the camp with those that like the 7mm Rem. Mag.,if you have a need for a magnum. BUT, it's more cartridge than necessary for most hunting in the lower 48, so i don't hunt with one any longer. I did take this sheep with a 7 Rem. mag....

Like James i choose a 280 Rem. over the 7 mag's... The best reason to have a 7 mag. over a 280 is "if" your hunting moose or big bears, ordecide to shoot at bigger game into the next county... The mag case will drive a 175NP faster than a 280 can, and the 175NP out of a 7 mag. is plenty of cartridge/bullet even for the biggest bears.

check another vote for the 7mm rem. I have one in a Weatherby Vangard, and love it. If you handload it's about as versatile as it gets. If you don't, it's still pretty good

I have the Vanguard as well. It's a great rifle. Shoots incredible groups with high grade ammo. Sub-MOA for sure. Mine is just a regular Syn. Vanguard. I can put 20 rds. down range in 1 hr. and it doesn't kill my shoulder.
