Default Remington mountain rifle

I' m considering getting a Remington LSS Mountain Rifle in 270 to go along with my 7mm ultra mag and 300 ultra mag the 270 will be my deer gun what kind of scope and shells do you recommend I don' t reload so the shells will have to be factory loads I was thinking for scope Leupold Compact or Nikon Monarch and for shells Federal 130 grain trophy bonded bear claws

Bear...
Better be careful....if you get that mountain rifle, you' re liable to not pick up those big guns again
Seriously, I love my mountian rifle. I wouldn' t trade it for any other gun. I have a .280 with a Leupold 3x9x50 on it. It couldn' t be a better combo. The .270 would be a nice choice also. A full size leupold or nikon would be a great fit also. I personally don' t care for the compact scopes, but that' s me. 130 gr factory loads seem to do very well in .270' s. I shoot 139gr handloads. Good luck....and hey, at least you have 2 big guns also...that way they can keep each other company when your mountain rifle is out with you LOL

I think I would use a Leupold Vari-X III 2.5-8X36, 3.5-10X40, or Leupold VX-II 2-7X33, 3-9X40.

That round will work fine.

Good luck.

I would dig a Mountain Rifle in .260 Rem with a Leupold VX-III 3.5-10x40mm on top. Perfect deer rifle. [:-]

since it is a lite rifle i would put a luepold VX-II 2-7X33mm or another kind of small comact rifle.

you might want to try the federal classic Hi-Shok' s 130gr. best grouping ammo i had in my 270win before i got rid of that jam-o-matic.

I second the 2.5 x 8 vari X III Leupold for scope choice.
This scope is very light to go with your lightweight rifle and you still get the benefits of a full size scope, there is really no advantage to going to a compact scope.
This scope will provide all the brightness you will ever need in a hunting situation and is sized right to look in proportion on the mountain rifle.

For ammo I would try the Hornady light magnums. If they shoot well in your rifle you can quit looking. Good bullet and you get a little more velocity over standard factory ammo.

I have been using the Hornady 130gr SST, I think that they come in the light magnums. The sst works great in my 270.

W V Hunter, what load do you use with the 280,mtn rifle, and the 139 gr,is that the sst' s?I have the 280 in rem bdl w/24in barrel, shooting 59 grs H4831 and 139 sst, went to range last monday shot a 3 shot group of .495 at 200 yds,it was the only 3 I had loaded with that grs of powder, looking forward to shooting that load at 100 and 300 to see how it does.I have a 30/06 in the mtn rifle and it shoots good, with the 22 in barrel, and was wondering how tight the 280 mtn rifle shot?

If you pick up a quality weapon such as the LSS put a Leupold on top and never have to worry about it again!
