Savage 99C Question?

Hello all, I have a savage model 99C in .308winchester with a clip and had a question for someone. Does the clip need to be in for the action to close properly or is there something wrong with my gun??

something is wrong, my 99 CD works fine without the mag in place.

Don't need the clip on mine . What's happening when you close ?

Thanks for the quick reply's, when I take the mag out the bolt doesn't lift up high enough to lock into the chamber and if I put my finger underneath it it works just fine.

Sounds like the bolt is riding on the magazine ,do you havemuch wear on the top of your magazine ?
