Default A thought on gun care?

I was out trying to find some color underneath all the oxidation on my 94 blazer this morning with a bottle of NuFinish car wax. Had me thinking, would car wax hurt or hinder the bluing on a gun? If it helps bead water, perhaps it would be worthwhile putting some on the old duck gun? Anyone ever tried it... any thoughts?

I'm not sure it I would consider using car way on my gun's metal parts. True rust is a form of oxidation but there are tons of products specifically developed to protect guns and other metals from rust.
Now I have used a high quality furniture wax like Johnson's paste waxon walnut gunstocks. (after first removing the action).

Use Rig.Keep a verylight coat of rig on the metal parts and you don't have to worry about it.

I read an article many years ago that suggested using auto wax on firearms in harsh environments such as Alaska. I used this technique on a Remington 1100 while hunting ducks in Louisiana. That gun went through hell and with the exception of a small pit near the end of the barrel it still looks great.

Wayspr - What some Alaskan guides recommended, especially for blued/wood firearms was to put a wax "barrier" at the barrel:stock interface to keep the salty atmosphere out of those hard to reach areas to prevent any unnoticed rust from starting. This is an enviornment where the stainless/synthetic combo is worth the couple extra bucks.

As long as it is pure Carnauba wax and contains no abrasives it will work perfectly.
