Default 300 UM w/ detachable mag

Wonder why I can' t find a manufacturer that sells a 300 UM w/ detachable mag? Browning, nope. Rem., nope.

I really wish Rem. would make one. The 700 BDL DM, stainless, with syn. stock (camo please). I imagine due to the length of the cartridge it may not be feasible so my only choice seems to be a 300 WSM from Browning. I' d even settle for a Rem. 300 SAUM but they don' t seem to offer much of their line with a det. mag.

Anyone else have some recommendations on how to get my dream gun? Am I the only one that really likes to carry a spare mag. while out hunting?

I guess those are my choices. I really would like to get either the 300 WSM or UM with a detachable mag, stainless, ext. I really don' t understand why the gun companies don' t make one. I guess Rem. could make one (300 SAUM) but they don' t yet. Last year I was talking about this and even emailed them about it but they came back with a rather candid response about next year' s product line and not at liberty to talk about it. I must be the only person interested in a combo like this.

According to Sako' s website, they offer the 300 UM with a detachable magazine. You might want to check into a Tikka as well.

I think either Tikka or Howa makes a stainless 300 WSM w/ det. mag. I tried for the last hour to find a place that sells them to no avail. Anyone have a store they know about in Washington that sells that rifle? I have an old Smith & Wesson 1500 (made by Howa) and it' s great so I would be happy to buy another Howa any day.

BTW Sako does not offer a DM in the ultra mags, only hinged plates. I don' t think dm' s can be used in the ultras do to size, but I might be wrong. Stubblejumper has a few custom built RUM' s on 700 actions, he might be able to chime in and tell you for sure.

The ultramags are too large in diameter to fit and feed properly in a remington detatchable magazine.Even the magazine insert for the bdl models has holes cut in the side to provide more room in order to get three ultra mag rounds to fit.If the ultramags would work properly in the remington detatchable mag I would have them on all my rifles. As it is I have one 7mmstw converted to the detatchable mag system and it works very well.

I always thought that the new Sako75' s came with a detachable mag for the ultra mag, till I read more closely. It only comes with a floorplate for the ultra. Their TRG line does come in 30-378 wby with a detchable mag. I think that the 30-378wby has an edge on power over the ultra, but I could be mistaken. Also the Sako TRG comes in 7.82 warbird with a detachable magazine, but you get that one through Lazzeroni.
