If you had to start your mid sized big game hunting (deer up to elk) gun collection over today......What rifle brand, make or model, and caliber would you start with?

That is easy! Blaser R-93 Professional receiver with a 308 win "Tracker" length barrel topped with a Leupold VXIII 1.5-5 illumintated reticle in a Blaser QD mount.

And here it is...

Custom touched 700's, McM stocks, Talley LW's and VX/FX II or III Leupold glass...

Some'd be short chunks, some'd be noodle rods, some'd have a tacticool taste.

.223's, 6mm's, a .257 or two, a couple of 7mm's and at least a 30 forSAG's, mostly AI'd.

Likely have to have a .375 to round things out for the big toothy stuff..........

I would still start out with the Winchester 70 chambered for .270 that my grandfather passed down to me.

If I hadn't had that rifle.

30-06 with out a doubt.

For rifle... probably a FN made Winchester model 70 super grade.

First of all I would get a 30-06 so all the bases are covered and anything added could be more target specific. It would probably be in a Ruger M77, they're tough and reliable, they may not be super accurate out of the box but a little work and you've got a real shooter, plus its a classic. Top it all off with a 3x9 40mm nikon and I'm set. Every gun after that is just gravy.

I would have gotten an AR10 in .308 with a Trijicon TR21 Accupoint scope.

This will be my next weapon though

I'd start with a Dakota model 10 in .30/06 wearing either a S & B Flashdot or an Illuminated Swaro Z-6.
