Default Marlin XL7

I was also looking at the new bolt-action Marlin XL7. It is getting very good independent reviews and only retails for $319 at Gander. I was looking at the Rem 700, but it goes for $500+. I could spend the price difference on upgraded optics. Anyone have any experience yet with the new Marlin?

ive read good reviews as well. From what i can tell, it's the "no frills" rifle of choice that gets the job done. I would definately consider one if i was in the market for another rifle.

Just want to be sure that No Frills doesn't mean POS ! One reviewer said it was the roughest barrel he's seen, but I don't know if that means bad or just tough. Anyone who has one or has used in the field- let me know. Thanks

I've had several marlins and I've never had any problems from any of them. From the review I read in one mag they said for the price it was hard to beat.

google it! there are tons of magazine reviews on it, including a web/bulletin board designed specifically for that gun with lots of great information. From what i read online yesterday, after your post, i didnt read one single bad thing about it.

Thanks, FA. Still doesn't seem to be a lot out there yet- but it all is good so far. Really wanted the Rem 700, but for the price and the reviews PLUS the extra $$ going to optics, I can't seem to go wrong with the XL7.
