I have used a Savage 99 C in .308 win for the last 43 years. It has taken whitetail, mule deer, moose and antelope. Not once has it taken more than one shot to bring the game down. I use Remington 150 grn soft points. That's the ammo it seems to like best.

IMHO it is not a very good deer round. It doesn't go 3500 fps and have 4000 FT lb of Muzzle Energy and doesn't shoot flat out 800 yards. There are much better out there

I have a Remington 760 carbine in 308, and it's always been my favorite deer rifle. I use Hornady factory loaded ammunition with 150 grain spire points. It's a surprisingly accurate rifle, and I've taken deer out to 250 yards (although most opportunities for me are under 100 yards).

I just gave this rifle to my son, and replaced it with a Marlin 336C in 30-30. I have other centerfire rifles, and I don't need one that shoots 4000 fps with 3500 ft lbs of energy to kill a deer.

Both my wife and I use a .308 for deer hunting. Of course it works. Some consider it to be the best deer round ever.

Does it work!! Does the .30/'06 work? If so, then so does the .308!!

absolutely. it's basicallyin the same class as the '06. if you plan on using heavy bullets like the 180 grainers than you may want to consider the '06. but if your going to use 150 grain bullets you'll do very well with the 308. i've had great success with 150 grain hornady SST's.
