Springfield 1898 made in 1902?

I have my grandads Springfield model 1898 made in 1902. I don't know much about this gun so please share any info you guys might have. I am not even for sure what caliber it is. What is it worth? It says the pictures are too large to upload???

Krag Jorgensen in 30-40 Krag. If its in original condition (stock not chopped, receiver not drilled/tapped) and in good condition, its worth upwards of $1500

Sounds like the U.S. Krag, the predecessor to the M1903 Springfield. If so, it has a swing-out box magazine on the right side that feeds the cartridges across under the bolt and up into the bolt raceway from the left side. It would be chambered for the .30/40 USA cartridge, (aka .30/40 Krag). This ammo is still being loaded, so if the gun is in decent condition, you can shoot it AFTER having a good gunsmith check it for safety!

Value depends, of course, on condition, and whether it has been "bubba-ized" or left in original, as-issued military condition. In excellent original condition, a U.S. Krag is worth a pretty good sum, as most have been ruined by some "gunsmith" (or blacksmith) somewhere along the way.
