I voted for the Howa just because it has better glass on it.

The Vanguard is a Howa 1500 with some minor changes to Weatherby's specifications. I don't really know about the Nikko scope but the 1500 Varminter Supreme that I have in 223 is a top notch gun.

I voted for the Weatherby Vanguard because I just purchased a Sporter in 308 and the fit and finish were very good. Better than I had expected. Also, one of the Weatherby distributors has been running a sale on the rifles. I was able to buy the Sporter for $499.

Which ever package you get, you need a nice 22LR to put the package scope on. Then go buy you some decent optics.

The scopes typically included in "package deals" usually leave alot to be desired. I believe I'd get the Savage (like those Accu-triggers quite a bit) alone then pick up a better scope (such as a Sightron Big Sky for example).
