MB77,
I would take a Taurus if it were free and I didn't have to depend on it for personal/home defense. I've not only heard too much bad rhetoric about them, I've also seen/experienced some poor reliability problems in their weapons. I think the 1911 is a great firearm but I would go with a different manufacturer. Best luck and God bless.

Taurus: I would buy if they were still in the mid $450.00 range but there prices are going high as high as a springer mil-spec
I have a SA 1911 Mil-Spec that I total reworked myself the gun I purcased last just for $599.00 is was a flip because he the dealer had a excellent taurus also is stock and it was the best one I seen so far but he was asking $625.00
I myslf could not see paying more for the taurus then the springer.I have about 4000 rounds threw the SA with not a problem;I think all my upgrades i will add another $100.00.
The gun is a range gun only the trigger breaks at 36 oz.
I think I made the right choice

mb77 - don't rely on J's post. He may have been relating to the earlier Taurus.
The newer manufactures are well made. My PT1911 will shoot along side any Kimber, Colt, Les Baer, etc.
This pistol is accurate and I have yet to have it malfunction in any way shape or form. The only thing this pistol could be improved on is the finish.

Taurus makes an awesome 1911. Its well made and its SOLID unlike some of the others. You know you have something in your hand when you pick it up. The shock from shooting it is virtually not there. I can shoot one all day in many calibers and continue to shoot. Taurus gots it goin on!!!

I have a Taurus and I love it. It shoots very well and so far it has been very dependable. I also have a 24/7 that I carry and it also has been very dependable. My father-in-law is on a Kimber kick and has gotten a 1911 and a compact .45 to carry and he love both of them. I have heard people here talk bad about the Taurus but I have yet to have any bad experiences with mine. good luck

I've got a pair of Para-Ordnance P14's. It's nice to have 17 rounds of .45 ACP available, just in case...

I just spent 3 days at the NRA convention and ended up ordering the Taurus, comes with everything I want and has an excellent warranty, Ive had kimbers and such and think the taurus is up to the job. people will be gun snobs but a 1911 shouldnt cost $1000 to get the options on the kimber, Iam getting the blue model, will break it in and will carry it.

Interesting. Folks express opinions in favor of something other than a Taurus, and that makes them "gun snobs"? The man asked for opinions on 1911's, not just about the Taurus... My preference, as a competitive shooter, is for a hi-cap, and I've had very good performance from both of my P14's. They've each had thousands and thousands of rounds through them and have proven extremely reliable. The only complaint that I've had is that the original mag releases were made of synthetic.
