Default Rifled Choke Performance

I just bought a rifled choke for my Remington 870 and was wondering how the performance is with it. I am assuming that I would be using sabot slug...? Any input would be appreciated.

I use a Carlson's rifled choke in my Savage 24f 12ga./223. You need to make sure any shell you useis designed for a rifled choke. Many of the sabot shells are designed for fully rifled barrels. A choke tube may not give enough spin to get decent accuracy. I've had excellant results with the Remington Managed Recoil Buckhammers out to 100-140 yards. The Managed Recoilseems to be slow enoughto getgood spin. I know that the full coppersabots are designed for fully rifled barrels. Hope this helps.

I have/had one for my 870 express.... if you were asking about them before buying... I'd of told you to save your money. An IC choke with rifled slugs and a regular bead will do better out to 50 yards.... put a set of sights on your rig with the IC choke and you'll get 75 out of her. I hope it does better for you.... but mine was purely a waste of time and money.

I remember asking my guy at the gun shop few years aback about this, he said they really don't work, perhaps better than smooth bores with rifled slugs.....either way a sabot in a fully rifled barrel is the best. I'm not sure you can use rifled slugs through a rifled choke either.....so old time slugs out of a rifled choke may be even worse than rifled slugs from a smooth bore....

Accuracy with such things ranges from outstanding to extremely poor! In any case, it may depend to a great extent on what slug you find to be best. Unfortunately, this involves the necessity to actually fire the gun to find out, maybe many rounds, maybe just a few. I would definitely use sabot-type slugs, if I could find a design your gun likes.

Rifled choke tubes or similar muzzle devices predate the advent of the current crop ofsabot slugs, and were even once used with Foster slugs. In that case, accuracy was also a hit-or-miss proposition!
