Default Help me decide

Iam getting an HS precison built. Love thier guns but here is the thing, do I go with the sporter which will weigh 7.75# in 300wsm, I would get the recoil reducer in the stock( these work and only weigh around 10oz) and with tally rings and bases and a leuopold 3.5-10x44 will weigh around 9-9.5pounds which can get heavy on a hunt

OR
go with the lightweight sporter(less than 7 pounds) and have them put their muzzle brake on the rifle and with scope and rings keep it a little lighter for hunting elk and bear. either rifle will have a gurantee of 1moa at 100yards, just have not used a muzzlebrake before, like the idea of a lighter rifle.
Thanks

I would go with opion #1 for the simple reason that I hate muzzle brakes, they are so loud they can couse you to develope a flinch just from the sound (though this doesn't happen to everyone). MOA means nothing if you have a flinch. Just my opinion.

after my browning abolt with the boss/muzzlebreak I don't think I'll own another muzzle break rifle. They are louder, though that's not much of an issue to me, it could mean more ear damage, cause there's lound and then there's really lound. Good idea to have ear protection with any rifle, but certainly with a muzzle brake.

I just don't like them much anymore though. I really can't see ever having one/wanting one.

How about the lightweight w/o the muzzle brake?

Muzzle brakes also btw increase pressure put on a scope....not less like you would assume.

whats the intended purpose of the rifle? what range do you plan on shooting with it?
The reason I ask is if the purpose is extended range the muzzle brakes are invalueable for seeing the bullets impact which is quite helpful for extended range hunting. I have 3 LR rifles, 2 of them have brakes, one of them weighs in at 8.5 pounds with a 6.5x20 loopy on top. the other weighs 15 pounds and is chambered in a wildcat which sends a 160 gr nosler bullet downrange at 3575 fps I can easily watch the bullet impact a deers shoulder at 600-800 through the 20 power mark4.
My other rifle also weighs in at 15 pounds, its chambered in 6.5 gibbs (6.5/06 AI'd to the max) I've never saw an impact with this rig.

I would go with option number one and drop the recoil reducer. According to your numbers that rifle will weigh about 8.5 pounds. The 300WSM really isn't that hard of a recoiler. A8.5 pound rifle and a good recoil padis plenty enough to soak up that recoil.

With this you still get a relatively light weight rifle for mountain hunting and don't damage your hearing in the process.

I will never own a rifle with a brake on it. The bad far out weighs the good they do.

Iam going to shoot about 400 yards, my limit, so no muzzle brake sounds like the leader here.

I would skip the mercury reducer and just add a Limbsaver recoil pad. I just ordered a stock from HS Persicion for thr Remington model 700xcr in the 270wsm.

Another vote to nix the brake.
