Excluding the magnums I have the three American .30's the 30-06, the .308, and the 30-30. Now I am going to the the around 20,s. I started with the .270 and started paying on a 22-250. Eventually I will add the 243 and 25-06. I have been told the 25-06 is not much different from the .270 but others tell me it is much better. What do you think.

Better for what? For just shooting animals up to the size of a coyote, the .25/'06 may be a better choice than the .270. But the .270 is a much more versatile round-it does everything quite well. I used to use 110-grain Sierras in mine for everything smaller than mule deer, and 130 grain Nosler Partitions for everything larger except bear moose & elk. For these, the Nosler Partition 150-grain proved sufficient.....

I've seen it put like this......the .25-06 is kinda inbetween the 6mm rem and the .270, when the .270 does what it does best, the .25-06 can't compete, and when the 6mm isn't much behind the .25-06 with a100gr downrange.....
I was surprised the .25-06 ballistics weren't more than they were, seemed pretty slow, perhaps its underloaded, but none the less I'm surprised it doesn't do more.
Cousin shot a mule deer, and it dropped on the spot, I've heard the .25-06 is the best antelope round, though I think a .243 is probably the best, that or a 6mm rem.
Speaking from first hand experience, you could flip a coin to decide between the 270 & 25-06. IF I had to pick only two guns tocover all of my big game hunting? I would pick a 270-Winchester & 340-Weatherby. These two guns cover every animal I hunt. Every year I hunt pronghorn antelope, whitetails, mule deer, black bear, wolf & elk.
If I could start my gun collection all over again? I would be very selective on the rifles & calibers I picked. Currently I have a gun safe full of rifles that have too much overlap. I would only buytop quality rifles & optics. I would also only own a few rifles, instead of many.
