Default Mossberg 835 slug barrels

Hey guys,

I need some help. I finally know which gun I am going to buy. I am going to buy a Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag 12 gauge pump shotgun. I am going to be hunting turkey, deer, squirrel, rabbit, dove, duck, and crow. I know that Mossberg makes a slug barrel for the gun, but can you get the 835 with the slug barrel in a combo at Wal-mart or will you have to buy the gun and barrel seperately? It is going to take a very long time for me to get the extra money if I have to buy them seperately. Which one would you prefer the barrel with the rifle sights or the one tapped for a scope. Do they shoot accuratlely? What slugs would I need to use? Thanks in advance for the information.

Also, what type of scope would you put on it and what magnification. Thanks

Jeff,

Slug barrel in the combo will only be a smoothbore with rifled sights, but that ain' t all bad. Guys have been shootin slugs pretty good for years thru those smooth bore slug barrels. I have a pretty short smooth bore 12 gauge J.C. Higgins pump that I can tear up a paper plate at 60-70 yards, shooting while standing.

The real serious end of slugging would be to get a fully rifled barrel with a cantilever scope mount. Then you can really expect to hit out to 100 yards, maybe more. I would only use a cantilever mount because the scope is mounted to barrel and can' t lose it' s zero as barrel is taken on and off.

Jeff Gordon? Isn' t he gay? I heard he was having a relationship with one of his pitcrew. I heard it was the jackman!

Post again. I would be intrested in what you do with barrel choice and what results you get.

My mossberg 500 smoothbore will shoot 2-3/4" slugs really well. It can group good out to 100 yards. And from a solid rest can hit a paper plate at 125 yards all day. Most won' t do this good though. And I only use the double bead sight that came with my gun. 3" slugs don' t group good out of mine though.

The standard 835 barrels are overbored and can' t safely shoot slugs so make sure you get a " slugster" barrel.

I HAVE THE 835 FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS, I BROUGHT IT AS A COMBO, SMOOTH BORE BARREL WITH 3 OR 4 CHOKES, AND A RIFLED CANTILEVER SLUG BARREL. I PUT A BUSHNELL TROPHY SCOPE IN 1.5-5, BUT WILL CHANGE THAT TO A 3-9X40 SAME SCOPE AND MODEL. I SHOOT 3.5" LIGHTFEILDS THRU THIS RIFLED BARREL, AND THEY FLY LIKE DARTS.

BowhunterCop,

Where did you get your gun? Does Walmart give the 835 in a combo? How much did yours cost?

Thanks

jeff gordon , they don' t have to carry them , walmart and kmart both offer special order programs so you can order an 835 combo through them , it won' t be at the bulk buy price though and walmart requires atleast half the money down first.

P.S. are you a nascar fan or is your name really jeff gordon , if your a fan my favorite guys are , earnhardt , gordon , jarrett , harvick , martin. i know , i' ve got more than one but , how can you like just one ???
