RE: cleaning my .22 bolt
First, in reference to the above post, make certain your present rod is suitable for .22. Rifle rods usually come in 2 sizes (now 3 with the 17) for 22 up to 7mm and >7mm.
I tend to agree somewhat on the cleaning issue. Way back in the mid-80s I shot NRA 3 position and 4 position .22 and used a Winchester 52 Target rifle. I had literally thousands of rounds through that bore and never cleaned it. And with the right ammo, it would punch every bullet into the 10X ring if I did my part.
Now with a new rifle, If, it shoots good clean, by all means keep it clean. If at all possible, clean from the breech and not the muzzle.
