Default .243 ar-15 question

would a 20'' barreled dpms .243 ar-15 be as accurate as a 26'' barreled bolt action rifle? im looking for very very long range accuracy, at least 600yds, id love the ar-15 but if it doesnt give enough accuracy ill have to find something else.

It would be more accurate than some, but less accurate than others. Not all bolt actions are created the same. There are some very accurate, and expensive, AR type rifles out there, but for pure accuracy, I'd stick with a bolt action.

You mentioned a 26'' barrel, but you'll find shorter barrels generally have an accuracy edge. The longer barrel gives you more velocity, but the shorter barrels are more common on the benchrest circuit due to the stiffer barrels.

I should shoot about as good as a bolt action, but just to clarify, you'l be looking at an AR-10, not an AR-15.

a scoped AR-10, with 26" barrel, loaded mag and scope will weigh 16 pounds, cost 300-400 more than an AR-15, would be cheaper to just shoot an AR-15 in 243 WSSM

I didn't know that. Are there any other WSSMs that fit in an AR-15? How does it compare to the 6.5 Grendal?

well you could get a custom 6.5 WSSM built, a man named mike milli has built them, he also builds a 7mm, a 308, and a 358 wssm, the 358 is an altered case, shortened a bit to be indianna legal. the 6.5 wssm should fall between the 260 rem and the 6.5/06 in performance. I have one of mikes 25 wssm's, and it is just as good of deer rifle as I have ever used.
