Currently own a 12 gauge now, so if I were to get another gauge it would be the 20!!! Why go with a 16 since is so close to a 12 anyway?

If you check the price of the ammo for a 16versus a 20 gathat will pretty well answer your question . the !6 gauge is getting hard to find and way higher priced around here .

I havent seen anyone use a 16ga in a long, long time.
For target shooting and practice the 20 ga would win hands down on ammo cost alone.

I would go with a 20 for the simple fact of the availability of ammunition.

You do realize that 16 is just as close to 20 as it is 12 right?

The 16 is still the most popular gauge in Europe, but the 12 has always been number 1 in the U.S. and Great Britain. However, the 20 in the U.S. has a much greater selecion of different kinds of ammo than the 16, plus the 20-3" round which is equal to a standard 12 in a much lighter and handier gun.

I personally prefer the 3" 20 ga. for everything.

I have a 12, 20 & 28 in O/U and 16 in SxS. No doubt in my mind. The 20 wins this contest. Better selection of ammo, cheaper prices, and generally a slightlylower weight to lug around. For skeet and quail and dove, there isn't a better gauge than the 20. The 28 is also a good skeet and quail gun that which throws a good patternwith very little recoil but it does haveexpensive ammounless you reload. For putting meat on the table, sporting clays and trap, I would have to go with the 12. The 16, while a fine gauge byitself, is just too overlappedby the 12 & 20.

I have used a single barrel 16 gauge(for shotguns)exclusively the last two years, and have taken a deer and two turkeys with it. Haven't felt undergunned yet. Yes the price and availability can be a hinderance, but I try to plan for that. Just my 2 cents. Thanks.
