Hey guys, I found a great deal on a 375 H&H barrel already chambered and threaded for a Model 70 action. I found a model 70 action, it is a 30/06 action. Would that work? Or would I need the magnum action? Can the barrel be re-threaded for a 700 action?
Thanks

A golf course is a willful and deliberate misuse of a perfectly good rifle range.
There would be a little bit of work involved getting the 06 m70 turned into a 375, mainly open up the ejection port, move the bolt stop and open up the bolt face, probalby a little work on the feed rails too but any competent gunsmith should be able to do it without much difficulty. It probably wouldn't work on a rem 700 due to the extractur cut in the barrel.
Would a CZ 550 magnum action work? Do they have the same cut as the Model 70's?

I believe youd have to pick either the barrel or the action, a .375 h&h is too long for a .30-06 action, the .375 ruger would work in a .30-06 action.
If I had to pick the barrel or the action, I'd choose the action, and maybe build a .375 ruger.....or just use the action on some other big game gun/rifle build. Maybe a .338 win mag?
though if the deal is on the barrel, not the action, you can get the barrel and look for a model 70 action ready for a .375, though I think the word is out that the win model 70 action is awesome and great for big guns, ie the .375h&h, so finding one at a deal would be tough, now you can prob buy a new model 70 action.....though again youre prob paying a premium for that.
Well I already bought the barrel. It was a 24" Christensen Arms Carbon barrel chambered and threaded for a Model 70 action. I picked up the barrel for $140 so I couldn't pass it up.

Is the barrel for a pre-64?.....a push feed?.....or a classis M-70?
It has the cut out in the threads, so I think it is the newer M-70's...

You mean it has an extractor cut.....OK
You would best be advised to find a M-70 Classic in any magnum chambering such as 7 MM Rem or .300 Win mag etc....these can be altered quite easily for the .375 H&H The require no bolt alterations, no extractor alterations and very little (if any) rail work.
You could do it on the .30-06 but more custom smithing will need to be done. Expect to shell out over $600 for the action and another $300 for alterations.
