I dont think people have a problem with 7 wsm, its just not as popular as the 300 and the 270, so companies may not be chambering for it, or making bullets for it eventually. There is some people that dont like wsm's, but I think its great they created a short action cartridge that out performed they're long action counter parts.

But some people, myself included, think the WSM has the perfect case capacity for the 7mm bullet. From my experience with the WSM line I would by the 7 wsm without hesitation. I reload so ammo availability wouldn't be a concern.

many people think that the 7mm mag is the perfect big game chambering. I can't say that I would disagree. Tremendous ballistics, available everywhere, relatively mild recoil etc. This like many things boils down to personal preference. 7mag vs 7WSM toss up. 300 win vs 300 wsm, toss up. etc etc

What do you want? Thats the tough part with all the choices out there. For what its worth, I would suggest the 270 WSM from the choices you stated originally. With a sims pad the recoil is very manageable. I believe that it would provide ample firepower for your stated purposes.

Bullets are pricey, but I have found them on sale at reasonable prices. Keep you eyes peeled for rebates, sales, etc and you dont have to break the bank. Last year I got 2 boxes of Fed Prem and 2 boxes of Win BST's for under $100 shipped from Midway.

I read when they came out with the .300 WSM, that it was the ideal caliber for the case etc....the .300 wsm is essentially a .300 win mag in a shorter fatter case. Less power capacity, they say its more efficient.

I haven't read or seen much how how accurate these rounds are, the .270 wsm or .300 wsm, they came out saying they should be more accuracte since the case is shorter, rimless, more efficient stack etc....

the .270 win is already a great cartridge, very accurate, personally I don't feel they needed a .270 wsm.

certainly don't get a 7mm WSM, dead or dying.....the jury is still out on the .325wsm though I think theyre predicting its going to be here for a while, least while they figure it out, though the .300 is a huge hit, and the .270 is also here to stay.

Ive seen some guys say the .300 win mag is better at shooting 200gr, and maybe 180gr, which in a .300 I think the 180 is the perfect bullet.

Personally my pick is the .300 WSM or the .300 win mag. If the .300WSM is just that, a .300 in a shorter case, then I'd pick the .300 WSM, as for the others, 7mmWSM is not even a choice...and the .270 wsm, im a fan of the .270 win. So if i were you it would only be between the 300wsm and .300 win mag, probly the .300 wsm, though I'd research it more when comparing accuracy to the win mag, particurly 180gr bullets.

I have had a 30-06 from my 13th birthday and I'm 49 I just bought the rem 270wsm I love this gun it shoots straight, shells are not as easy to find so I always stock up i use 130gr for deer and 150 for elk i harvested a very nice muley at 310 yards and folded it in oct. And i do agree with eversboy it will kick and its plenty loud. I put a bushnellelite firefly 5x15 i hunt inElk Montana and antalope in wyomingand deer where ever I can so i have long shots that is why i bought this gun i like it
