RE: 243 vs 30-30

IM going to recomend you try shooting different guns in other calibers. I have a Remington 7400 in 270 that has more recoil to me then my Tikka T3 Lite Stainless in 300 WSM. The Tikka fits me alot better. As for the caliber for you i would get a 243, 7mm-08, or 25-06.

Dean, there's nothing wrong with a 243. Lots of guys hunt with them very successfully and love them. I always like to mention to people who think they are "recoil sensitive" that what they may really be sensitive to is NOISE. Blast is terrible on shooting ranges. My old tired ears hate to even go to a shooting range anymore. And I'm afraid the 243 has a wicked "pitch" to it's blast...or so many people say. They all hurt my ears. Be sure and get you some good hearing protection or just the foam inserts are much better than nothing. You may find many of your problems go away with this simple step.

If the .243 seems right to you, go that way! It's far from a bad choice.

Get a 7mm-08. Recoil is pretty light and its better at wverything than the 30-30 or 243.

7mm-08 is your round! maybe a .260.....both based on the .308 case which the .243 is as well. great comromise for you, little to no kick, yet heavier bullets than a .243 yet still plenty of range 500yds on deer etc.....plus heavier bullets for thos hogs up close etc.....plenty popular, the rounds here to stay, not going anywhere.

the .243, 260, 7mm-08, 308, 338 federal all emply a .308 case. I think the 7mm-08 is your round!

What State are you in Dean790....if you lived close to me I would let you shoot my Browning .243 A-Bolt Hunter Rifle. You would fall in love with it and it can be used for Coyotes,Deer and Hogs.It is a very accurate gun that has little recoil and will shoot far out.In the past few years I have shot 3 Does and 2 nice Bucks with it and haven't lost a deer yet!I have a Leupold 3 X 9 X 40mmRifleman scope mounted on it with millet base and rings and I usethe 100 grain Hornady shells.

Every major rifle manufacturer that builds bolt actions chamber for the 7mm08. Also, everybody has their personal favorites on brands too(mine is browning a/x-bolt).

Not to be contrary, OX, but there are an awfully lot of dead coyotes and deer who would argue with this statement if they could.
