I traded a rifle fora Remington 870 Express 12 Guage in 3 inch. I ordered a rifled barrel from Ruger Mike that should be here in a couple of days with a scope. I've never owned a rifled shotgun beforeand just got thisone for no particular reason. Now that I've got it I'm pretty excited about hunting with it. I was just hoping that you guys could enlighten me on the different ways I can use my new toy!

You can use it on collateral as trade for something you might get more use out of in Colorodo.... like a big game rifle, 4 wt fly rod, or a pair of ski's.

Besides the obvious deer hunting, what other uses does it have. Like would it be legal and effective to hunt elk in the dark timber with?

Practice and you could be shooting out to 200 yards with your slug gun. SST's are zeroed at 150 and drop 6.7 inches at 200. Colorado wouldn't have been my first choice to hunt with a slug gun but it will be fun, i guarantee that.
Check your regulations. Michiganwhitetail has taken an elk i beleive with a 12 gauge slug.
I'm also goning to check tomorrow to see if I can use it on public swa's for coyote hunting when centerfire rifles are not allowed.

As far as I can remember there are no regulation prohibiting you from using a slug gun to hunt any big game in Colorado.
