Default Bolt removal 700BDL

Please help....I'm an idiot. How do you remove the bolt on a Remington 700 BDL 30-06. The manual says there is a button to push in front of the trigger. The only button I see is a one to release the hinged plate. What am I doing wrong?[:@]

There is a small 1/4" square flat piece of metal inside the trigger guardin front of the trigger. I've tried prying and pushing and all but breaking it off and it will not release the bolt. ????

Push it in, and jiggle the bolt at the same time...

You just push it up, towards the scope, not towards the muzzle, and the bolt slides right out...

Damn, I just remembered mine was in the back of my wifes van from this past weekend, Oops. Just open the bolt about halfway, push the button, and pull it the rest of the way out. If you pull the bolt all the way to the rear, the button wont move. I just did it.

About 5 years ago, my hunting buddy's son-in-law came by while I was having a little shooting session...He had brought his 700 so I could sight in for him...He had bought the gun from a pawn shop about 4-5 years before but sayed it never shot too good...

When he handed me the gun, I slipped the bolt out and laid it on my shooting table, looked down the barrel, which was dirty and he said "How'd you do that?"I asked "What?"...He said, I have owned that gun for 5 years, and have never been able to figure out how to remove the bolt....Funny thing is...He's a Certified Cummins Diesel Mechanic....
