RE: 350-Remington mag or 338-06???
Gosh, Robert, that's a tough one. I know how much you like the .35-cal in general, so it would be hard for me to recomend anything else based on that knowledge alone.
However, I think from the handloader's prspective, the great variety of .338-cal bullets available probably make the .338-06 a bit more versatile, and it should translate into a rifle that can be used for more than just your stated purpose.
Both will certainly get the jobs done that you require, and for these I would go with a 225gr bullet in the .338-06 most of the time.
I've seen both now, and the Weatherby rifle is superior in every way to the Remington. In fact, you would be hard-pressed to build a finer custom rifle than that Weatherby Ultra Lite. The only thing I would worry about with it is recoil but I know you are far more tolerant to it than I, so it should not be a problem for you.
But if your heart is set on a .350 Rem Mag, rest assured that IMHO, you couldn't do much better than that for your intended purposes. <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>
