I wanted a .240 Wby. Mag., soi had a Rem. 700 re-bbled to .240...

I'm not sure i'd so it again though, unless your not going to shoot it much, as the brass is waaaaaaaaaaay over priced!

RE: anybody make a 240 wby mag rifle

I recently saw wby making .240's, though they may have changed things, I can no longer find them making .378 ?

I really like the ballistics of the .240, I tend to like wby cartridges in their largest caliber for cartridge. ie....240, 7mm, 340, 460? not sure about the upper end 460, but I tend tot hink their largest calibers for cartridge are their more normal rounds, yet still offer a bit of something more....though of late it seems even remington adn others are becoming crazy about velocity as weatherby was decades ago.

I just checked their website.....currently they offer that round "240" in their Mark V models: Accumark, Deluxe, Ultra Lightweight and Synthetic.

Personally as far as brass costs, weatherbys simply cost more, and I really don't do a ton of shooting, i shoot now and again some rifles, and before i go hunting site in/practice, i can understand cost of ammo if you do alot of shooting/plinking, but if you mainly just hunt with your rifle / occasionally shoot a particular gun, ammo should be some of the cheapest thigns you buy for your hunt, so i say what's $50 on a $3000 hunt for isntance?

thought I'd point out that though I really like the .240, the .257wby is by far way more popular, and even chambed in a remington now! and many others i suspect, might consider that round. brass might be cheaper/more availabe too.

So you’re saying, you will buy the rifle because you can get three boxes of ammo at a good price...?

That reasoning sure beats the " I need one of those rifles someone gave me 3 boxes of ammo" or " I just picked up reloading dies for a 240 weatherby" now I have to buy a rifle. :D

RE: anybody make a 240 wby mag rifle

I read it'll beat the 6mm Rem by about 200fps, and the .243 Win by about 400fps, probably the best .243 caliber if you want to hunt big game at a distance, ie better than the other 2....though lots of guys do fine with a .243 and 6mm on antelope/mule deer out to probably 500yds. I'm looking for something in the .243 or .257 caliber for this perpose, though I'm unsure what I want, but I'd want it for a lightweight setup for antelope and varmints, maybe muley's though I think'd I'd step it up for muleys, also I think you can justify the expensive ammo more so for weatherbys at the larger calibers, .300 wby i'm sure is more fairly priced compared to that of a .300 RUM loaded with premium bullets, than a .243 win is when compared to a .240wby, btw .240 ammo should be about 40-60 bucks depending on which you get.

If you like the ballistics of the .240 WM, take a look at the 6mm/284. Ballistics are the same (same case capopacity), but the brass costs less, and accuracy is outstanding with the short, fat case. In addition, it fits in a short action, and the .240 WM takes a .30/'06 length action.

If you are a real nut, check out the .240 Gibbs!
