Something is wrong with me, I have no interest in new guns, either buying them or shooting them...!!!
I was shooting my oldHi-Power recently at the range and the guy next to me offered to let me shoot his Sig, Nice gun, shot good and worked fine, it just didn't have any soul, just another piece of iron that went bang-(even he really liked the Hi-Power better). My buddy has a new,real nice 700 in 22-250, very accurate, but for the life of me I see no reason to own one-my 30-40 yr old Ruger in .243 works just as good. And it's just not other peoples guns, that SW 586/.357 has not been out of the safe in years but the Colt SAA is showing alot of wear. The Browning OU never goes for walks and rarely to the range. Why bother, I have A-5s in 12 & 20 that will handle skeet, 5 stand, birds and deer, I just like them. Lets not even talk about inline ML'rs, .22s and even airguns. I go to gun store and look at the used rack, and breeze right past the shiny new stuff.
Anyone else have this trouble? What causes this?
For me it's about history. I can feel it in the guns. I wonder who hunted what with that old Winchester, or what that old 1911 was used for when it was young. I've made a little history with my newer guns but most are just filling that void in the back of the safe..
I like em' all! However, once you get a good one (fit, feel, etc.) it's like an old friend. That's why they feel right and comfortable. I don't buy many guns anymore... I love the ones I have just fine. But, if something really gets my interest I'll get it. Can always sell later if necessary.

The newer one's are ok,I guess....I fell in love with the black powder
cartridge rifles a long time ago..Have a 50-70 which I have not shot yet.
I do like the newer varmint rifles though..Love that 22-250 cal.
Once we get all the corn in,I plan on casting some bullets and loading
and shooting that ole 50-70....
I am not a gun discriminator.. I like them both.. The older guns defintly have more meaning to me especially those that have been handed down in the family.. They are the ones that get the back spots in the safe and brought out on special occasions.. The newer ones do all the heavy lifting..
them old hi powers are shooters. i dont know what it is about them, but im the same way with them...gunna hafta find me one here sometime soon...they are getting to be a bit hard to find...but all the ones ive shot were awesome shooters. wont trade the glock for one...and will most likely get a sig before the hi power...
rifles im the same way...like some of the new stuff, but the old stuff usually catches my eye...i coulda bought a new m700 or m70 etc when shopping for my first deer rifle....what did i pick?? an old mauser! its sporterized, but factory everything except stock...looks like the metal was turned down to remove the bigger battle scars...but out of the whole gunshop i picked the mauser....
totin around a 50+yo rifle is like carrying around a piece of history...i often wonder what them old guns would say if they could talk...boy the stories they could tell.....

I'll take an old mauser 94,95,96,or 98 over a Remchesterruger any day. The fit, finish, and sturdiness of the old rifles make new rifles look like toys.

I lean towards the old ones, I like the history, andI like good wood, blued steel, and color case hardening. I bought a Marlin 1895 last summer, it's the first new rifle I have bought in a long time.I couldn't find a good old one like I wanted. Where I work, when you get fifteen years in, they give you $500 to spend on what ever you want, so....
nchawkeye - SWEET. I like that one. I got a few of the new ones, 17HMR, 325WSM, those with Accutriggers, etc. but I too like the old timers. I have an affliction toward the older cartridges like the 45-70, 405 Win and the traditional BP rifles. I'm still trying to get my hands on an old '94 in 32 Spl but I always just miss them.

New guns vs Old guns
The older guns defintly have more meaning to me especially those that have been handed down in the family.. They are the ones that get the back spots in the safe and brought out on special occasions.. The newer ones do all the heavy lifting..
