Default gun refinishing

This might be the wrong forum, but anyhow i have an old stevens single shot 12ga that i refinished the stock, and blued the barrel. Everything has turned out great, but now what can i do with the reciever. it's got scratches, and some of the finish is worn off. It's the gas on water lookin finish. Can i steel wool it off and blue it, what should i do with a old gun like this. I want to rabbit hunt with it, so i bough the gauge mate 12-28. i really wanted to buy a new H&R 28, but maybe this old gun will save me some money.

Default RE: gun refinishing

It sounds like the receiver is case hardened, as evidenced by the "oil on water" look. AsI recall, case hardened steel doesn't take blueing well. It'd probably make a great rabbit gun. My guess is that it has a full choke.
