Scope bases and position of base on barrel

I have an old Navy arms 50-70 rolling block rifle and
I want to put a scope on it and use it for hunting..
It is an octagon barrel...My question is how do I deter
min which base I need and where to have it positioned
on the barrel..I was thinking in the line of a long base
like the Weaver so I can have four mounting screws..

Yes sir you are correct I have such a base instock if you want to e-mail me I can help you out. They will need to be drilled and tapped into your barrel. Be sure this is the direction you want to go before you deside to drill? mikem@tls.net
