Default Scope Question For New .223

I got a new Savage .223 the other day that came with a Simmons scope. My new scope came in from Cabelas yesterday and I mounted it with some rings I had in the shop. The rings are a little to high and the scopes sits about a 1/2 inch off the barrel. It doesn't look very good, but it was suprisingly comfortable to shoulder and look through the scope. Every scope I've ever had, wasdown almost touching the barrel. Is there any problems you run into with mounting the scope that high off the barrel? Will It still zero the same? Should I give it a try, or just go buy new rings?

Thanks Bryan

Default RE: Scope Question For New .223

col, if its comfortable it'll be fine, scopes on AR-15's average 3" from the center of barrel to the center of the scope.
My experience on this matter is, as long as it doesn't effect your shooting ( cheek weld) that space helps you more than hurts, ( My AR's average 3-3.5") say your shooting 500 yards, that 1/2" amounts to 2.5" of bullet drop that you don't even have to think about consider it free useable trajectory.
