Default Muzzle Brake, Sight Moving Question?

I'm buying a new gun that I'm going to put a brake on. The sight is right on the end of the barrel. The gunsmith said he could move the sight back a little. Has anyone ever had any experience with this? How did it affect your shooting with your open sights?

What's the most affective brake to put on a really big bore caliber?

Thanks Bryan

This is the factory brake that came on my savage 7mm. mag..

It works great, about 40% less recoil when open. You do not want to shoot it with out ear protection. I close mine when hunting, you never feel the recoil then. You must need your open sights on you new rifle? I just use a scope on mine. Good Luck

My brother-in-law had one put on his 300 ultra mag. I am affraid I do not know exactly who did it,but it was sent to San Antonio and I believe it started with a V.It is added onto the barrel and I do not believe they moved the sight. My 12 year old now has no problem with it at all.

I have a brake on my 300 RUM, but it does not have open sights. This gun is a 416 Rigby andI want to be able to shoot with a scope or open sights. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with it.

You'll never notice any difference with the open sights. Your sighting plane will be reduced by a couple inches, but the only difference you'd notice would probably just be in your head.

If the front sight isn't a banded front sight you can machine the brake so that it is the same diameter as the barrelfor as long as it is under the frint sight and then taper out to the full diameter of the brake.
