Default RE: .17 Cal. vs .22 Cal.

DG,
Like you said it's a new cartridge and all hyped up.I think it will level out soon once those who want one get it.My fear is it's going to follow in the footsteps of the famous 5mm Remington RF.Try buying cartridges for that jewel.I think the 5mm was before it's time and probably would have had made it if it was brought out today.. The 17 probably has a much better chance of surviving.Ruger,Marlin,Savage to name a few are making guns for this tiny cartridge. The price of the ammunition for the 17 is (IMO) to expensive and like everything else will get worse.Right now the 17 is a novelty and something new.I don't know if it will become a back of the safe gun or not, but think all the hype will calm down shortly.Down the road I might pick up a Ruger 77/17 just to have it.The 22 mag has served me well for a long time. Why fix it if it works?????

I don't see why people are buying into the hype. Personally I can't think of one reason why I would want a 17HMR instead of a 22mag. If your shooting a close range then your probably better shooting the 22mag with its heavier bullet. If you need to shoot at longer range then a shot a 223 which is far superior. Maybe I missing something because they seem to be selling very well.
