charles daly...good or bad>??

Im planning on getting a shotgun within the next month or two and the Charles Daly semi-auto maxi mag is my number 1 choice right now. I know that there are a lot of complaints about them but I just wanted to see what all of yall that have shot them or own them think about them.?

I can not speak to the quality of the shotgun you are talking about. I can inform you about Charles Daly. It is a trade name not a manufacturer. They could change their shotgun tomorrow if they find a cheaper manufacturer. Long term customer service has always been a problem for C.D. Tom.

What kind of complaints have you heard other then Internet and if so why are you even considering them? I bought a semi-auto 20 gauge for my son 2 years ago. He has shot it at a sporting clays course and has I don't know how many rounds thru it. It cost 295 dollars........It has a lifetime warranty on it as well . You call Daly they send you a prepaid UPS box put the gun in it and they repair or replace it. Does Remington or any other manufacturer offer this? I didn't think so. BTW the gun is 5 3/4 lb and balances perfectly..I borrow it on occasion

Some of the older Maxi Mags had problems with bolt handles breaking off. A friend of mine bought one to turkey hunt with a few years ago. I went a different route and bought a Bakail MP153. Both were inexpensive 3 1/2 inch magnums. Neither one is pretty, they both go bang when we pull the trigger, and we don't cry when they get scratched. Having shot his maxi mag, its better balanced and looks a little better. It doesn't like 1 1/8 ounce shells at all. Stove pipes nearly every time.

I agree with the above poster that Charles Daily products run from decent to junk depending upon what they are importing at the time. I owned an older Charles Daily import that was a copy of the Browning Auto 5. It's wasn't much of a shotgun.

I like my 20 Guage auto also.. Really liked my O/U I had also..

Actually I pay little attention to complaints on the net. When it comes to C.D. I speak from first hand knowwledge. I was a sales rep. for Outdoor Sports for several years. Outdoor Sports owned the C.D. trade name at the time. I sold hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of C.D. product.

In the time I worked for them we changed our muzzle loader manufacturer three times. The MZ's were offered with a lifetime warranty. Try to send back a MZ that was bought in the early 90's. They will laugh at you.

I can remember 3 different shotgun manufacturers we used. And for a few years we completely dropped semi-auto shotgun's. Then the next year we would buy from a different mfr. I can remember one year we sold semi-auto's that came off the assembly line with the Weatherby semi's auto's. Those were some dandy's!!! But two years later we had a different importer.

C.D. also sold rifle scopes with a "lifetime" warranty. The problem was they changed Mfrs. every other year. If you sent back a broken10X they would send you a new 3X9.

I did not attack the quality-reread my post. As a matter of fact I sold some very fine stack barrels for them. But then two years later they would switch to a differntimporter.

I think the Bonitz Brother's hold the trade name now.Who knows who will hold it in five years. Your "lifetime" warranty may be good today or tomorrow, or even next year. But it will change. Tom.

That's good info! For the record, with the name changing hands so often, I wouldn't touch one with a 10 ft. pole.

Sounds a lot like the way Weatherby does business with their shotguns.
