Default storage

Ok i go to get my knee surgery monday and deer is already over.
Rabbit and squrrial soon i cleaned my new shotgun mossberg 500 for the first time. I have it hanging on my wall in my room and am wondering for storage. Can i over oil it and what is the best way to insure it does not rust hanging up there till next season

Giving it a wipedown with any gun oil will protect it till next season. For long term storage of guns I don't shoot, I use RIG grease.

I never put anything on any of my guns and they never rust.

If its a wood stock yes you can over oil it, sometimes resulting in cracking the stock. But if you put it in a gun cabinet and you are concerned bout moisture then place a few brickets of charcoal in a open container in the cabinet.

Yes, as mentioned, get some Birchwood-Casey SHEATH, saturate a patch in it, swab the bore a couple of times with the stuff. Then wipe down allmetal parts with the same patch, and put it back on the rack. It will NOT RUST after such a treatment. And SHEATH will NOT harm wood finishes.

I would wipe it down with an oily cloth to get rid of the fingerprints and unless you live in a very humid climate not worry about it.

i did wipe all the fingerprints off oils the bore and chamber good and littly oiled the stock

i might be able to get a safe soon so hopefully i will not need to worry about it long
