does not rust as easy as blued. great for stalking on snowy or rainy days in the cedars and swamps.
someone else told me once that the stainless steel barrel will last longer that a blued barrel

They tolerate throat erosion a little better than a chromemoly but not much more unless you are using 17-4 which is heads and shoulders over chromemoly both in erosion and rust resistance. 416 Stainless will still rust just not as readily as chromemoly and have to be watched over especially near salt water or in a really damp environment. In extreme cold the chromemoly barrel is much stronger than the stainless barrel and thus can be made with a thinner contour. Pro's and cons with both metals. Very few barrel manufacturers use 17-4 I think (Lothar Walther) is one but if you can find one they are worth the extra $ in my opinion. HS Precision rifles actions are made of 17-4 and are the only ones that I know of made in that material.
