Default New Rig

I got this Marlin .30-30 from the wife for Christmas. I came with the scope which is a simmons 3-9X40. I know the scope prolly sucks, but it will do for now. This is my first official centerfire rifle, so am pretty excited. Just thought I would share.

The rifle is very nice (I love the Marlin leverguns, I wish I had one), but you're right about the scope. I'd scrounge up a couple hundred bucks and put better glass on it ASAP. I've heard great things about the Hornady Leverevolution soft tipped ammo. You might pick up a box or two and try it out.

Enjoy your new rifle.

You do have a good catch with that wife!!!! I second driftriders suggestion, IMHO a 30-30 is served well with a good 4X fixed scope!

Congrats, you will love that 336A. Everyone is right about the scope, ditch it!!! It's way to big for the gun and makes it look top heavy. A compact scope like a 2-7x32 is just right for these short levers. Try the Hornady Leverevolution ammo. It has great knockdown power along with supurb accuracy.

Congrats! I agree with everyone about the scope though! As soon as you can, get some good glass on it! You could get 20 years of service out of that scope! But odds are, it will fail you in a couple of years. And as Murphy would have it, at the worst possible time!

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I wish I could get a new scope tomorrow, but having2 kids that have champagne taste for christmas has left me broke. I will try and hunt some coyotes with this scope and see how I like it. If not, I will tear it off and get a new one after tax season. Thanks again!
