Remington model 710 7mm

I just picked up a remington model 710 7 mm...Anyone have one of these? How do they perform? I just shot it and the bolt seemed to get stuck pulling it back, is that because it is a new gun and it has to be broken in?

I almost bought one of these in .270 win a little over a year ago but after reading up on them and talking to some guys on this board I ended up going with a Savage 110. I've heard that they have some less than desirable bolts.

Hi Mike,
It's always great to get a new gun.
I had a 710 in 270. The bolt is in a nylon receiver on the 710. Although my bolt was never smoothe to operate it never got stuck to the point i couldn't pull it anymore. I did eventually have a problem with the bolt where It became a huge chore to lock it up. Sometimes i couldn't ever get it to lock up.I eventually traded the gun in.
That being said if you have a new 710, i was under the impression that the gun now has a metal receiver.
There are folks that have had issues with this gun and there are others who have had no problems.
BTW. Mine always shot well

I had one in 30-06. It was an accurate gun but it would enver keep its zero for some reason. I could shoot 1/2in groups with it but as soon as i took it away from the rest and put it back the zero would move about 6 in. We could never figure out why it kept doing that so i got rid of it after about 3 years of messing with it.

The remington model 710 is a real POS. It's remington's worst rifle EVER! My advise would be to trade it off or sell it to buy a honest rifle that'll last you.

Just because its not anybodies favorite doesnt mean its a POS. Granted, there are other guns out there that are more reliable and accurate, but if you are just getting into shooting and hunting, the gun will be able to do more than you will. YOU will be the limiting factor in accuracy, not the gun. Go shoot it and have fun, it will kill a deer just as fast as any other make or model. If you get to the point where you want to do a little bit longer range shooting and the gun is holding you back, upgrade to a Rem 700. Its a beautiful action that is more than competant and is one of the (if not the) most accurate mass manufactured actions ever created. Not everybody needs nor wants a rifle that can shoot sub MOA, nor is it neccesary for 9 ou tof 10 applications. At 100 yards where most deer are killed, a 2-MOA rifle is as deadly as a sub-MOA rifle. Have fun shooting and dont worry about what anybody else says.

I thought when they changed to the metal receiver they also renamed it as the Model 770.

The 710s that I handled both felt so rough that it felt as though the action was full of gravel.I have owned many Remington rifles,but I will never own a 710.There are other guns available for the same price that are much better made,the stevens being one of them.

I got rid of my 710 and got a Tikka T3. I wanted a Remington 700 but the price of Remingtons has went up alot so i decided to get a Tikka. Its a great rifle.

I thought T3's were $575+ rifles. A Rem. 700 SPS is only $399. You could really upgrade your optics budget with that much of a price difference.
