I bought my first Citori when it was unfashionable to buy a Japanese O/U and was quite pleased with it. It was called the lightweight and had a schnable forend. I think I paid 600+ for it at the time. They are a lifetime gun

You know between that A5 and the Husquvarna you have I am starting to get gun envy. I had an A5 light 12 I bought in 71 and sold it , I have nightmares about selling that gun to this day.

My father and mother went to Spain in 1984 so I wanted him to bring me a Beretta O/U, what does he bring me......an AyA SxS. Hey he paid $300 US for it in Spain, do a search on AyA's and see how much they are worth in the states!

BTW, I still have the Win mod 12 20ga he gave me back in the 50's and the Single shot B/Oshotgun that my grandfather brought from Spain in 1907.

Envy is starting to turn to hatred. I used to know a Jai Lai player in Florida that worked in Daytona. He was a Baqueand he grew up with the Sarasquetas in that part of Spain. Never owned an AyA but have handled them on trips over there they are a very nice gun. Your right over there they were selling for a ridiculous price back when the peseta was worthless...the Euro that is another thing.

I'd buy a Valmet 412, install double triggers on it, and then look for a set of 12ga/30-06 or 12 ga./9.3x74R bbls for it... AND i'd buy the Valmet quick attach scope mount too!

I'd then have a gun that i could pretty much do all of my hunting with...

I am a big fan of the Brownings although I have a Weatherby O/U. The Rugers are nice but are quite heavy compared to the rest.

I have owned a couple of 686 Silver Pigeons and a Silver Snipe and never had any problems with the finish or stocks fading or chipping, but to be fair, I used mine for skeet and sporting clays only. I have hunted quite a bit with my Onyx and have scratched the finish on the stock, but I have never chipped it.

Does the onyx have an oil or matte finish on the stocks or is it high gloss like the Silver Pigeon?

I have owned several Beretta Onyx O/U's over the last 12 years, and all have had the oil finish and black matte receiver. In reality, the Onyx is 686 Siver Pigeon without the silver finish. Even the Silver Pigeons that I have owned have had oil finished stocks. I did have one and can't remember what model that did have the gloss finish on the stock. I prefer the oil finished guns.

My Dad even took the gloss finish off his Citori, and it sure did improve the "looks".

That's what I thought , mine has this finish and I don't think it is epoxy it is more like a lacquer finish(very thick) and I wonder if it is UV resistant or not because of that purple haze it has,seems to chip real easy. Anyway I had thought about sending it to that guy in Maine I think his name is Mike Colethat is a beretta specialist and having the stocks replaced with some of his pre-fitted stocks. I am with you I much prefer the onyx then and I will stick with a blued finish on an O/U . The 686 might well be the best designed of the O/U shotguns as far as action goes. You can't get stronger then that and be as shallow.
