Default 338 Win Mag recoil??

Whats the recoil like of the 333 Win Mag I currently shot a Remington mountain rifle in 30/06 and a 7MM Ultra Mag have no problem with either I seen a used 338 at the local gun shop that has a good price its been there for 6 months the dealer said not too many people want something that big for Pa whitetails but I always prefered the big bore calibers by the way I mostly hunt whitetails with elk about every 2 or 3 years lack of funds to go every year

In a rifle that weighs about 8 1/2 or 9 lbs, the 250 gr bullets loaded hot will get your attention right now, but not a hell of alot worse than what you're shooting. I shoot 200 gr bullets at about 2700 for whitetails, and its not much worse than a 06. Not so much that you really notice the difference. I think you will like the 338 for its killing qualities. Thats something that is more noticable than a 06, the way those big bullets will slam a critter. I wouldnt advise a 7lb 338 though.

I have always thought that if you have to worry about the recoil of a rifle then you don't need it. I have seen people scared of the recoil of a 243 Win even though the actual recoil is almost nonexistant. Why? Because they had it in their head that the rifle would "kick". Mind over matter. Just shoot the darn thing and don't worry about the recoil and you won't feel it.

Federal 225 Trophy Bonded HE, PMC 225 Barnes X, Remington 225 Swift A-Frame, or Winchester 230 Fail Safe. Good luck.

I shoot 210 grain NP's through my 338 Win. Mag. and the recoil feels like that of an '06 to me. Though, you'll notice a big difference when you shoot the 250 grain bullet, which I also hunt with. When I'm at the range, I'll usually shoot about twenty rounds with the 210 grains and about 15-20 from the 250's before I switch to a different gun for a bit. I put a decelerator pad on my 338 and it helped alot and also changed the crap factory stock and put a McMillan stock on which fitted really well when I shouldered the rifle. With a stock that fits you well and a good decelerator pad, I see no reason why you can't shoot two boxes plus from your 338 during one range session.

let me give you some advice, I have been cursed with low recoil tolerance all my life until today. You know how people say to "just roll with it"? Well, their right! Just shoulder the gun with the butt stock ON your shoulder, not in between your shoulder and chest, but on the muscular part of your shoulder. this lets the gun push on you while you roll back with it.

Don't try to push the gun as you shoot, just let your upper body roll on back with it. This turns the hard kick into a grazing push. It makes about any gun you want to shoot seem light.

"Hey ya'll, watch this"

as far as recoil goes. i find i shoot alot better with a gun that does not kill me than a gun that does. dor instance. my 450marlin kicks like a son of a gun ! and i feel that if she did not kick as much i would have better groups with her.
