Default Guns and loads for Africa.

Sitting here on a Sunday morning and dreaming, lets say you were taking a trip to hunt whatever you wanted Cape Buf, Crocs, Elephant, Hippo, Kudo, etc. what gun or guns would you take and hey while I'm dreaming what loads would you work up or buy and what would you call accurate enough knowing your shots will mostly be offhand and with big bores?

If...and that's a BIG IF...I ever went to Africa to hunt the big mean critters, I'd want to take either a Mauser actioned or double rifle, in a caliber that starts with a "4", or at a bare minimum a .375cal. It'd be loaded with RN solids to make sure it's going to find its way to vitals. The rifle would have open sights. Accuracy wise, the more the better, but I'd be satisfied with 3-4 MOA. I haven't been to Africa, but I imagine that shots aren't that far, and the vital area on an elephant would be enormous.

Im not really big into the hunting in Africa but IF i did happen to win a trip there then i would want a big rifle. Im thinking 416 Rigby as a min. Might even think about taking a 50 BMG for my long range shots on an elephant.

I'd want a beefed up Mauser action in 416 Rigby and my second rifle would be the same action but in 375 H&H.
Both with solid one piece scope mounts with irons also on the rifles. The irons would not be for use unless the scopes malfuntioned.
But, I'll never go to Africa to hunt. Just ain't in the cards for me.

IMHO, you are posing your question in the wrong place.

Consider goingto:

www.accuratereloading.com

Go to the African Huntingsection and/or the Big Bore section.
You might want to research a little before posting your question.

I'd go with a .243 Win with Barnes Solids.

Guns and loads for Africa??

I'd take the 30-30. If I was going to go after something really big, I might take along a stoutly-loaded 30-06
