Default .308 ammo

Time to pick up my 1st few boxes of .308 ammo. Will be shooting my new Ruger Frontier rifle. Uses of this rifle are Hogs & Deer here in Florida. Whatwould you suggest on over the counter, easy to acquire ammo.

I've gotten great accuracy in a couple rifles out of the Federal Premium with both the 150 grain Nosler balistic tip and 165 grain Sierra btsp loadings.

I've done some hog hunting around here...you think the ballistic tip is a good bullet to use on hogs, given the bone structure?

150 Grain Remington Core Loct as long as they shoot good out of your rifle.

.308 ammo? I agree with the suggestion on Federal Premium ammo. That's all I use with my Savage .308 bolt action. Everything from the cheap target rounds (American Eagle) to the best Nosler Ballistic Tip rounds.

You just have to see what flavor of .308 ammo your Ruger Frontier will like. Federal, Winchester, Remington, Hornady, etc...

IMO a Nosler BT is a bad choice for hogs. I love a BT bullet for deer but would want something a little tougher and designed to give penatration. A Nosler Partition or a Barnes bullet would be my pick.

Black Hills Gold if you can find it. Their premium hunting round crossed with their nearly unbeatable accuracy. There are others out there too. Just my reccommendation

We use 165 grain bullets in ours. If you are wanting it for hogs any well constructed bullet will work. Ballistic tips will work but we prefer not to use them on hogs.

You know, I've always heard that as well....bought some for three of my rifles....a .243, .308, and .270....and not one of them would group well with it. I'm sure it does great in other firearms though.

I'm guessing you're talking about fairly short to moderate ranges down there in FL.....so yeah, I'd probably start with the premium core-lokts and see how they shot...and then move up the price range. No use in spending 40 bucks a box on Winchester XP3's when a 18 buck box of core-lokts will shoot better and kill things just as dead.
