Default quarterbore short action???

I like the 25-06 as much as anyone who hasn't shot one possibly could, but I really like the idea of a 25 in a 308 win case. Is there such an animal already out there?

P. O. Ackley's HANDBOOK FOR SHOOTERS & RELOADERS has data on it. Another round you might consider is the .250 Savage. In a bolt action, it is quite a performer!

I've got one. It is a 25 souper built on a mauser action with a ss savage fluted barrel, timney trigger and a boyds jrs laminated stock. The dies are made by redding. Itshoots good, but I would probably rather have a 260 rem. More bullet selection in 6.5, cheaper to built because factory barrels, reamers, dies, brass, etc are available.

Thanks, I was hoping someone was already producing a factory loading for this round. I really don't have the time to get into reloading so a wildcat is definitely not something that I would be interested in

There's the .25 Winchester Super Short Magnum (WSSM). It's a very fat (.300 WSM width), very short (.223Rem) length cartridge thats supposed to perform similar to the .25-06. It could, however, already be going the way of the dodo. I wish that Winchester had just domesticated the .25-308 wildcat rather than introducing the .25WSSM. If they had it'd definately be my next rifle, and I bet it'd been a whole lot more popular than the WSSM as well. A modern, high performance short action .257cal cartridge is overdue, and I can think of no better case to base it on than the .308Win.

But I'm like you and not going to do a wildcat either. I've considered going to an Ackley Improved (.22-250 AI to be exact), because it just involves fireforming loaded .22-250 Rem ammo, but I'm not interested in necking up/down.

The .250 Savage (parent case of my favorite CF cartridge of all time, the .22-250 Rem) would be a great option if you could find it in current production rifles. I know of no company that chambers for .250 Savage. Maybe T/C in the Encore, but I don't know for sure.

Mike

I have an AR-15 chambered in the WSSM, it will not duplicate a 25/06, its equivalent is the 257 roberts. 3000 fps with a 115 gr is a max load. what would the souper offer over the "bob"? better brass is it, the 25 wssm will function through an AR-15 and there are smiths building uppers as fast as they can and are still backlogged 8 months
