What does fluted mean? Example: REM 84014 700 CDL SF 270 24 FLUTED

see the lineal grooves cut into the barrel on this rifle, thats fluted, the reasoning here is that the barrel is lighter, but still as stiff asit wasorinaly, and has much more surface area for faster cooling

Fluting reduces the weight of the barrewl by a few ounces,no effect on velocity.

Nope, but it makes the rifle a little lighter, so maybe a little more recoil.
