My personal preference would be the Ruger bolt . I have looked at thier lever action also but would go with the bolt . The Marlin seems to be the big seller locally and is less money .

In a magazine comparison between the Rugar and Marlin Semi-autos the Marlin achived better groups for what it's worth. Good luck.

I don't know about the 17 HMR 597, but unless they completely rework and redesigned it then it will be the same piece of junk as the other 597.

All the articles I've seen rate the Marlin the most accurate, and it's one of the least expensive.

I've only shot two so far, NEF/H&R with a bull barrel and an Anschutz's 1517D Classic. The Anschutz was a dream and super accurate. The NEF/H&R was a nice little gun and shot very well but after shooting the Anschutz theres no comparison.

I got the bull barrel Savage. I'm waiting for a scope. My friend has the same gun and it shoots fine. Mine was $205 with tax.
