.22 mag or .17 hmr

I was just wondering if any one has shot or bought one of the marlin model 925 .22 mag bolt action or the marlin .17 hmr? I'm looking for a good target/small game gun and wondering which is the better caliber?

I have a Savage 93R bolt-action in .17 HMR. I love it. Very accurate. Very fast. I've just used it for target practice and I like it...

I own both, the .22 mag just collects dust since I bought my Marlin 917. The more that I shoot it the more I love it. I topped mine off with a Mueller APV scope and I have no problem hitting paintballs out to 100 yards.

Yea i have both also. I use my 17 for punching paper mostly. I just took the scope off my 22 for my slug gun so its gonna get more use as a beater gun on fishing trips or whatever else now.

neither but id take a 22 LR for targets and small game. 17HMR 17 grain V-max + 50yards + squirrel = POOF!!

This has already been discussed already in this forum. My choice is .22 mag for large varmits and other critters. A .22 mag solid(fmj) bullet leaves same exact wound channel as a .22Lr hp.

Go for the .17 hmr and take head shots on the squirrels.

Gotta go with the 22 mag. Ammo is alittle cheaper. Killed more varmits with it.

I love my 17hmr. Let my little woman shoot mine the other night....first gun she ever shot and with a short course in gun safety and function and by her 5th shot she was shooting 1 hole groups at 50 yards! With zero recoil and that kind of acuracy for a first time shooter you can bet she is hooked. She took her target to work and showed it off..lol. That means buying new guns will never be an issue....so do I like the 17hmr...hell yeah

It was already one of my fav rifles but thats just another plus for it.
