Default Ruger 10/22 scope

I am on the verge of buying a Ruger 10/22 for squirrel and rabbit season. I am looking for a good quality, yet not too highly priced, scope to put on it. I have always been a bowhunter, so gun hunting is new to me. I did some research and found out that I have to buy a weaver style base, as well as a scope mount.

All in all, I would like to put a scope on my gun. What base, scope mount, and scope do you guys recommend for my new 10/22? Thanks

You'll need a weaver T09 base so that you can use regular weaver style rings instead of weaker 3/8 tip-off grooved rings. Aluminum rings wll work ok. s to scope,EVERYBODY will have different opinion so here's mine-a 2x-7x or 3x-9x weaver rimfire scope. They are about the best scope for rimfires in their price range. I reccomend to spend at least as much on scope as you do for rifle. May I reccomend that you get a target model 10-22 instead of regular carbine? It's MUCH more accurate than the carbine and has heavy hammer forged barrel. Another way you can go is later as your money situation improves, build your own target rifle from carbine base as there's truckloads of aftermarket parts/upgrades available for 10-22.

"As far as what scope to but on it, I would go with a Nikon Prostaff 4x rimfire scope.

"That is a super good scope.Have one on my .50 CVA Staghorn muzzleloader.

Zak,

Since you asked. I picked up a set of these rings:

And am quite happy with this scope:

http://www.swfa.com/pc-4950-309-bushnell-4x32-sportsman-rifle-scope.aspx

The scope is very clear and bright for the price. This is my favorite low budget .22 scope. I came across this one piece scope mount a couple years back and absolutely love it. It's about the same price as a decent set of rings plus base. I like the one piece design. Probably from my experience with the TC Encore Duo-ring set-up. The nikon everyone is recommending is also a really nice scope if you've got the money. I prefer the fixed 4X power for the ranges of a regular .22 LR.
