Default lengthening stock

What is the best type of wood to use to make about a 1/2" spacer for my shotgun stock? It is a little short for me. I used it shooting sporting clays the other day and I did pretty good but the club pro said I was shooting over them because the stock was a little short. Once I adjusted I hit better. He recommended a 1/2" piece of cabinet grade plywood then paint or stain it whatever color I wanted.

It has a thick recoil pad on it already.

Colored plexiglas does a great job. It polishes up, and can be buffed to the exact stock size. If done right it looks like a factory job. They can look like the white spacer's on a Remington BDL. Tom.

Ever consider an adjustable pad? I used to use a Morgan pad on my O/U trap gun. It can make the gun shift to where you get the sight picture you need to shoot where you're looking..............

For a professional look, Kick EEZ makes black plastic type spacers in different thickness's. They are made for stock work and can be ground and polished to fit any stock.

For a quick and inexpensive fix you install either a Pachmayr or Limb Saver slip on pad. The new Pachmayr slip on pad looks nice as it has a curve in it. Both of them will add at least an inch to your LOP.

Thanks for all the replies. I like the gun but because of the stcok being too short it hits my cheek and after shooting 100 rounds it is sore and I have to compensate for it shooting high. I might try the adjustable recoil pad. That sounds like what I need. It is on a baikal S/S and the gun is good other than the fact the stock is a little too short for me. The pro at the range shot it a couple times and said he liked it but the stock needed to be lenghtened a little.
