Default Shotgun Scope

What do you guys prefer in a shotgun scope? i just ordered a Ultra slug from NEF and need to get me a scope for it. I have seen the fixed power, adjustable and red dots. I plan on shooting either Hornady or Lightfield 3" sabots out of it and sighting it in around 3" high at 50yards. I would like to be able to shoot out to 150(this is the reason for sighting in high at 50). What scopes should i look at, is a adjustable power worth it? Im kinda turnin away from the red dots as i dout the accuracy will be that good.

I place on all my slug shotguns including my H&R Ultra Deluxe 20ga, a Leupold VX-II 3-9x40, using the SST SLugs by Hornady

My old stand-by for years has been a Leuppy 1-4X variable. A fixed 4X may also be the ticket. Something else I'm looking at is the Trijicon 3-9 X 40. It's more magnification than necessary, but for low light conditions / areas it looks very good. Pretty darn decent glass too. Pricewise it's kinda spendy tho...5 and change. Good luck.

Sho.

I myself went with the Leupold VXI with the heavy reticle. This is compact with a good field of viewand plenty durable without breaking the bank. Theheavy reticle is awesome for quicktarget acquisition. Good eye relief too, which is important.

Can't go wrong with a Nikon 2x7x32 Pro Staff. I've got two of them $125 + tax about anywhere that sells scopes.

What I would look for is LONG eye relief, bombproof, low power/wide field of view, and reliable adjustments.

I see no reason for an adjustable power scope on a slug gun. It ain't like your shooting range is 25 - 3 or 400 yards like a rifle.

KISS. Straight 4X

I have a 20 gauge Ultra Slug and put a new Weaver 3x9 on it. I shoot lightfields and at 50 yards 2" high and will shoot 3 shots in one hole. Shoots a 4" group at 125 yards which would be about the maximum shot I would have in the are I hunt.

Buy a good qualityfixed power scope one time. Got a box full of cheap scopes that were killed by my shotguns and muzzleloaders. The scopes currently on two of my muzzleloaders are also cheapies. Though the guns shoot good with those scopes it is just a matter of time. Got a couple of Leupolds waiting in the wings.
